This Cream Is Happy Skin In A Tube — Literally

Certain beauty products — think NARS blush in Orgasm, Clinique's Black Honey lipstick — are so good, they're practically famous. And, while we do love so many of those well-known, well-loved products, we've been wondering why others have been quietly flying under the radar. With that in mind, meet our new beauty series, Cult Classics. in which we'll introduce you to the products you really, truly should know about (and try, like, right now). They're not brand new, but trust us: They've got staying power.

As women that grew up in the era of "oil-free everything," we confess that, at times, we have feared thick or heavy moisturizers. Breakouts are a major bummer, so rather than risk a throbbing zit, we spent years using only the lightest lotions to smooth out our mugs — and, if we experienced tightness or flaking, well, at least we weren't blotchy and red.

Everything changed when we came across this innocent-looking green tube during Fashion Week many seasons ago. We soon realized that almost every single makeup artist, regardless of brand association, stashed a tube or two of this curiously named balm in their kit. We knew some sleuthing was in order — and sure enough, our eyes have been opened.

Skin Food is a super-duper-extra-thick cream created by Weleda . an all-natural (read: stocked primarily by health food stores), biodynamic skin care line that has been a secret favorite of celebs for decades. Housed in an aluminum toothpaste-esque tube, the cream is so thick that it's actually difficult to squeeze out — meaning, it seems like it's way too thick to put on your face. And, the brand agrees: The balm is marketed for dry spots such as hands, feet, and elbows. But, we beg to differ.

If you're brave enough to rub this thick goo on your face, you will be richly rewarded with the happiest skin of your life. Seriously. While some conventional face creams are filled with icky ingredients like petroleum and silicone, this moisturizer is packed with only the purest and most complexion-nourishing ingredients (hence the "food" in the name) — think pansy extract, sweet almond oil, calendula extract, and hydrolyzed beeswax — so you can rest assured that there is no evil pore-blocking going on.

Yes, the formula does take a bit of time to sink into your skin (if you're worried about the cream sinking in before applying your makeup, use it at night), but once your face drinks it up, it won't feel greasy at all — just perfectly, utterly balanced. And, it will stay that way all day come hell, high water, or polar vortex. It's that good.

So, if your face has been hating winter as much as ours have been, trust us and treat yo'self to some all-natural pampering (for only $19 — score!). We promise that you'll get over your fear of heavy moisturizers forever.
